Dixon as Charlo |
McDonald Dixon an only child, raised by his mother, a voracious reader until her eyes failed at ninety-three. She instilled in him, her love for English literature. By seven, he was reciting reams of verse, though too young to understand their meaning. Dixon received his early education at the Castries Anglican Infant and Primary schools.
In January 1956, he entered St. Mary's College on a Town Board scholarship. At sixteen, browsing through shelves at the College library, he stumbled upon " Twenty Five Poems" by Derek Walcott. He knew from that moment he would write. Despite having written several short stories and plays, he is best known for poetry. Dixon is also an accomplished painter and photographer. In 1994, his country honored him with the St. Lucia Medal of Merit for his contribution to literature and photography. Dixon plays Charlo in The Coming of Org.
